The Storage Media Compensation (SMV) is an Austrian "copyright levy" and is collected by austromechana when storage media such as USB sticks, external hard drives, SD cards, or smartphones are placed on the market.

It serves to compensate for private copies of protected content, such as music, movies, or texts. The revenue from the SMV is distributed to the rights holders through the collecting societies (collective management organizations).
